Achillea ‘Gypsy’: A short, double-flowering white yarrow with a
yellow center; semi-trailer;
good alternative to Bacopa if need something heat and drought-resistant.

Alocasia (Upright Elephant’s Ears):
Huge, critter-resistant leaves point upward and sway in the
breeze; add lots of focal impact to the garden or containers;
dramatic; rich soil with adequate moisture for best performance;
most thrive in high light to 80% shade; take inside for the

Series:
The flowers are the same but the foliage is dark,

Brugmansia:
Similar to
Datura but large trumpets are face down instead of up; ‘Grand
Marnier’ is soft apricot-pink; ‘Snowbank’ is pale pinky apricot
and white above green and white variegated foliage; see list for
other colors; most grow 4-5’; sun.

Calendula:
A
triple-layered daisy with a dark center; nice alternative to
marigolds; known to the French as "souris" (smiles); only 10";
full sun.*

Carex ‘Toffee Twist’:
A small, mounding, ornamental grass with bronze foliage that is
an excellent foil for almost any other color in a container.*

Cleome ‘Senorita Rosita’:
This new cultivar has darker green foliage and keeps the
foliage all season; flower is lavender; 3-5’; scored very high
in Clark County trials; doesn’t set seed so doesn’t need to be
deadheaded; no thorns; full sun.

description says middle of leaf is dark maroon; sun or light

Dahlberg Daisy:
A
bushy, much-branched little annual with deeply divided,
threadlike leaves and a profusion of small yellow daisy flowers;
a trailing habit, getting 6-12 " high and spreading a little
wider; leaves have a pungent, lemony odor when crushed or
bruised. Plant in site with good drainage; drought tolerant;
sun. *

‘Silver Falls’:
Has branches of velvety-soft, fan-shaped,
silvery leaves, glistening silver stems, and a "never-say-quit"
cascading habit that spreads up to 6 feet! Heat and drought
tolerant; even if wilted, recovers quickly; full sun.*

‘Diamond Frost’:
Just keeps on flowering with clouds of
small, airy white flowers from late spring until frost; great
for combining with larger flowered plants in hanging baskets and
containers or in ground where its wispy form adds style and
texture; Ohio State award winner 2005; heat and drought
tolerant; sun to partial shade. *

Felicia ‘Cape Town Blue’:
This Cape Town Daisy is a more compact and free flowering
variety; requires a sunny spot with fertile, well-drained soil;
keep well watered; use as a cut flower or in window boxes, pots,
and rock gardens; 8-12".*

Geranium:

‘Blue
Wonder’: This may be the
first true lavender geranium; have to admit that I’ve only seen
pictures but they actually look lavender rather than pink or
fuchsia.
‘Vancouver Centennial’:
This fancy-leaf geranium
has bicolored leaves and bright orange flowers; wonderful annual
for containers; sun to bright shade. *

The

Iresine
‘Blazin’ Rose’:
Iresine is native to
tropical areas of Brazil and Ecuador and represents another
great choice in colorful foliage for the landscape; their ideal
location is in sun until around mid-morning and then shade or
filtered light; will look at home planted in the garden or a
container with other tropicals as well as hostas; as a ray of
sun penetrates tall trees and strikes these plants, they will
appear to glow with electricity; large, rose and green foliage
on hot pink stems; plant in fertile, well-drained soil; feed
monthly; 12-14" by 16-20". |

Jamesbrittenia:
A new
arrival that resembles a bright Bacopa;
‘BritneyTM Grand Red’ is
dark red with a dramatic halo of maroon, all surrounding a large
golden center; each blossom is about an inch across; much more
abundant than the Bacopa with
which we are familiar; 6" high but up to 2’ wide or trailing; ‘BritneyTM
Grand Pink’ is dark rosy-pink with a dramatic halo of purple;
full sun to partial shade; great for containers.*

Laurentia
‘Beth’s Blue’:
Grew this last summer
and loved it; true blue stars that last all summer and fall;
drought tolerant; 12-14; finely textured foliage; full or
afternoon sun.*

Lotus
(Parrot’s Beak): Finely textured, silvery foliage
on long strands that make this plant ideal as a hanging basket.
The flowers (not prolific) are reminiscent of lobster claws and
are usually yellow or red but grow this for the foliage; full
sun. *

Lysimachia congestiflora
‘Outback Sunset’:
Attractive yellow and green variegated
foliage with yellow orange, bell-shaped flowers; 3-4’ but
trails; excellent in containers.

Musa (Banana): If you
want a tropical look in your garden, try one of these in full
sun: |

‘Basjoo’: Glossy green
foliage; although designated as a tropical, has survived our
winters for 2 years at Secrest Arboretum in Wooster where it is
planted 2’ deep; 12’.*
‘Zebrina: Technically, this is an
Ensete, another Banana genus; green leaves with
burgundy variegation; 4’.*

Nemesia: Best in containers; the new cultivars
bloom well even in the heat of summer and the cool of Fall;
prune back if they become lanky; the upright blue and white
cultivars never stopped blooming last summer; the trailing
Sunsatias also bloom well; full sun to partial shade.
‘Cranberry’, ‘Lemon’
and
’Coconut’
(white) are
mounded and trailing. 'Berries and Cream' is a fragrant
purple with a delightful white and purple speckled lip. Two
other trailers are ‘Charm’
(red and white) and
‘Attraction’
(bright yellow and white). A new upright is
‘Opal Innocence’, an upright, iridescent lavender pink.

Nicotiana
‘Perfume Deep Purple’:
This Flowering
Tobacco was a 2005 Bedding Plant Award Winner;
Nicotiana
always known for its
fragrance but many recent introductions sacrificed scent for
color; deep purple star-shaped flowers give off hint of
sweetness in the evening; 20" tall and spread of 15-18 " if
planted in full sun; may not reach full size, in partial shade
but will still perform well; also a good choice for container
gardens. * |

climate conditions; 12-18"; sun or partial

as its feet are soggy.*

‘Illumination’: A cultivar of the common Vinca that we plant

shade.

Xanthosoma aurea
‘Lime Zinger’:
Huge, chartreuse Elephant Ear; sun to bright light; will
grow in moist garden or container, boggy soil, or even in water;

new bicolor zinnia with excellent branching; inside of petals is
